One Way Trip to Trashland
In my latest zine I track a lamb's whereabouts on it's one way trip to Trashland. This is a zine made up of digital collages that I generated using my own photography and a paper lamb found in a magazine. The photographs capture my own trip through my mythical Trashland world and the work I generated after dozens and dozens of weekends of exploration of Southern California landscapes.
This is a zine for the lonely, the abandoned, the dreamers and the explorers. More about the collage work can be seen here: http://www.monicalealcueva.com/lamb

Two Zines dedicated to women traveling or hiking alone, by two photographers Monica Leal and Anja Pycior
What happens when you have an adventurous soul and a desire to explore almost obsessively but no one can join you, or you are left alone or you simply just prefer your own company? As women we are often told and warned about being by ourselves in strange lands. But there is no reason why we should stay home and wait for a companion to go for what we want. Read this guide to being on the road alone by two experienced photographers and lone travelers.
Our Lady de Guadalupe in Los Angeles Zine
Zine about murals and public representations of Our Lady de Guadalupe all over Los Angeles, outside businesses, homes and other public places. The zine includes a location description of where each image was taken.
My inspiration for this project was my own sense of foreignness even in such a rich Hispanic region of the United States. Never devoutly religious, and not belonging to the neighborhoods that host her, I instinctively chased after the icon that lives in every Mexican's consciousness. I found the image of the ultimate Mother of my culture to be alive and powerful and, by driving through unknown streets and photographing her, I got close and intimate with the city that I now call home, discovering a new feeling of belonging.
A game of Chance - Zine about
Zine in progress about re-arranged Lotería cards. Purely visual. This zine is dedicated to the Juego de Lotería and what happened on the day that I was so angry I wanted to break stuff, but instead I found a deck of Loteria cards , an exacto knife and some glue. The result is a set of reimagined lotería characters that seem to come out of a dream.
Dreams of Hispanic Romantic Love
Zine about poetic lyrics of hispanic folk music (boleros) paired with dreamy digital collages that illustrate the romantic quality of the songs. The zine includes a Spotify code that can be scanned and it will locate the song in question, and songs by different latinamerican composers. (Out of Print)
